What the site is for
ForestMGMT provides educational tools, worksheets, and plain-language guides for private woodland owners. It is designed to help an owner move from a vague question—“Should I cut this?” or “What are my woods worth?”—toward a structured property record and a better conversation with a local forester.
How the calculators should be used
Forestry calculations are only as good as the measurements and assumptions behind them. Basal area, trees per acre, board feet, timber volume, and cruise expansion are useful descriptions of a stand; none of them automatically prescribe what should be cut or what the timber is worth.
What ForestMGMT does not replace
- A legal boundary survey
- A field-based silvicultural prescription
- A professional timber appraisal or sale administration
- State-specific legal, tax, or regulatory advice
- Program-specific plans or certifications where an approved professional is required
Editorial method
Guides are written to separate general forestry concepts from site-specific recommendations. Where federal programs or technical standards are referenced, ForestMGMT points landowners back to official agencies because standards, payment scenarios, deadlines, and eligibility can change.
Core planning sequence
- Map the property and stands.
- Define ownership goals.
- Describe current stand condition.
- Measure what the decision requires.
- Compare management options.
- Use qualified local professionals for prescriptions, sales, programs, and regulated work.
- Monitor what happens after the treatment.
